Position Summary:
The Business Development (BD) Director has a vital and strategic operational role in the planning and management of MOCA Systems Inc.’s (MSI) MOCA Services business development and proposal marketing processes. The BD Director collaborates with discipline leaders, office leaders, proposal teams, and the corporate marketing team to develop business strategies and maintain high-quality assets and materials to promote and support the winning of work. The BD Director ensures a strong and consistent client interface while promoting interoffice collaboration and asset standardization.  This is a remote position.  The ideal candidate will be based in the Los Angeles / Orange County Region of Southern California area. 

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Leads the development and growth of strategic relationships within the AEC industry to properly position MOCA for the winning of work that aligns with the company’s values and goals.
  • Discovers opportunities, develops leads, and strategically positions the MSI’s Owner’s Representative / Continuous Alignment practice for the best prospect of success.
  • Evaluates potential clients and projects for alignment with MSI’s business plans.
  • Researches, interprets, and shares market intelligence, including specific client research.
  • Fosters relationships with new clients and creates long-lasting connections with current clients.
  • As a relationship catalyst, strategically bridges introductions of MSI personnel with key clients and other industry relationships.
  • Joins key industry conferences, networking events, and organizations in visible and impactful roles.
  • Encourages and fosters a culture of sharing intel to promote reciprocal relationships.
  • Maintains MSI’s competitive edge by developing pre-positioning strategies and cultivating strategic external partnerships.
  • Facilitates the development and execution of Go/No Go decision making on project pursuits.
  • Using knowledge of the market and competitors, identifies and develops unique selling propositions and differentiators.
  • Collaborate with MSI team members to develop, maintain, or enhance business development planning and related activities including the necessary preparations for pre-positioning, proposal development, and project interviews.  
  • With other leaders, co-manages opportunity tracking within the company’s CRM system (Salesforce).
  • Co-manages pursuit pipelines and reports out regularly to firm leadership.
  • Establishes key proposal marketing performance indicators and data-driven insights to inform future business development strategies and improve MSI’s market positioning.
  • Meaningfully contributes to the refinement and management of proposal marketing workflows, software and marketing asset systems (OpenAsset), and other processes and tools to enhance efficiency, simplicity and accessibility.   
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations for the improvement of visual and written proposal assets and templates. Ensures accuracy and consistency of project data on all outgoing proposals and materials.
  • Proactively works with office leaders, discipline leaders, and corporate marketing to develop high-quality written content including project descriptions, firm narratives, resume bios, service offering descriptions, and other promotional material.
  • Guides and supports office and discipline leaders in the development of proposal responses. Writes and reviews key sections of proposals and provides feedback to ensure cohesive proposal documents.
  • Oversees the use and quality of resumes, brochures, project tear sheets, presentations, and award submissions to ensure a cohesive and high-quality brand image and strong competitive positioning.
  • Provides oversight of outgoing Owner’s Representative / Continuous Alignment proposals to ensure adherence to company standards.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, architecture, engineering, construction management, or related design field.
  • A minimum of 8-12 years of business development experience within the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry, with a minimum of 3-5 years in leadership roles.
  • Candidate must possess the following abilities:

    • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of proposal development software including Adobe Creative Suite and OpenAsset.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of CRM and lead generation systems.  Salesforce strongly desired.
Starting Initial Salary Range: $155,000 to $180,000 annually. Full benefit plan including medical, dental, vision, disability insurance, 401(k) with generous employer match and an HSA employer contribution in certain circumstances.
